Although developments in technology have made many diving products increasingly modern and improved their performance, as has happened with BCs, regulators, and computers in particular, fins still remain fixed in the collective imagination as the product that best symbolizes diving. If we were to ask non-divers what product they associate with diving, they would most likely say fins. Moreover, even when we – dedicated divers ourselves - close our eyes and imagine a diver, in our minds eye we see a silhouette, outstretched and similar to that of a fish, thanks to the fins, the engine behind our dives. The logical consequence of this could only lead to another step in the evolution of fins. Mares has created a new fin that is a marvelous synthesis of design and technology. This fin is the new Mares X-stream. Performance, comfort, and lightweight are the results of sixty passionate years at the service of diving. The X-stream is truly a leap into the future, and changes forever how we envision the creation of a fin. The research and development phase was long and intense. Many repeated tests were conducted in the Mares Laboratory testing machine, in the pool, and in the sea, using handmade prototypes that were modified, improved and optimized at each step. Until an idea finally becomes a reality, a design does not become a finished product. After just one look at the X-stream, it is lear that this is something completely new. However, it is not just the irresistible design that is surprising: it’s the features contained in its special form that make it a cutting-edge product. According to Mares tradition, a design is never an end in itself, never just a sterile exercise in style. On the contrary, a design must be functional and fully express the technical and performance concepts behind it.
